     Death drew in the dank, cold air of the tomb. It seemed to...strengthen him. He stood in the doorway between light and dark. What was left of his sanity...implored him not to enter. But that voice...was just a whisper now. As he worked his way down, deeper and deeper into the crypt, he began to feel a change in himself. He seemed to be gaining strength. He could hardly see in the gloom but, somehow, he seemed to know the way...

For as long as life has existed, so has death. Endless millennia of quelling the living, of raising the undead. Nothing was beyond Death's mastery and control of the magicks of unlife. The pesky mortals with their petty structures could not understand the realities of the afterlife they could not know.

Death came at last to a great hall. This is where it would happen. He would blow up the pyramids from the inside. An incalculable and violent magically explosion. All it would take is a few moments of preparation, and who if not Death, had time for that. The room was quiet, save for the distant sounds of bats which were always around and easily frightened in cinematic moments. Suddenly, he let out a blood curdling scream.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaahuhuaaiaiaiooaiaaaaa ahaoaaaaooooaaooaooohhhhhhh.

It was then that he realised, he hadn't been gaining strength. He had been gaining life.

The lights flicked on.

Ten thousand fliers for how to extend your life with hippy pyramid magic began to fall from the ceiling.

More lights flick on in the background, revealing spinning pewter wire frames of pyramids, eerily rotating in the background. On the plastic folding tables tables lay Etsy nicknacks of illuminated gift shop pyramid replicas, which sparkle brightly underneath the track lighting set up by the National Museum of Cairo. A cat with a triangular name tag dashes from the guided tour signs to the cover of shadows, behind its place is a glass of kiwi, celery and, probiotic kombucha.

Death shrieks again, the countless years of his unlife reversing rapidly. His timeless visage now under the spell of Benjamin Button. In but a few more trendy tik tok loops, he would be gone.

IT'S TIME TO BLOCK. AND. LOAD.

Behold, the ultimate showdown between two objects that could readily act as replacement construction material! In this corner, nothing but corners. In the other corner, the same thing but with reflective sheen. The loser will be the ultimate square.

Mahogany comes out swinging -- about to knock the grit right off of whetstone. The preparedness, the determination, the force of will in the form of pure kinetic energy! Wood block cannot be denied, as it hurls its entire body against its opponent!

INCOMMING.

A suckerpunch! A sock right to the...uh, block! Mahogany is undone by an unexpected nimble doge and counter attack by Grit Whetstone, a combatant who must have spent a considerable time honing its skills. Now, the fight is underway. Onward to press the advantage. Again! But it's not to be. Wood Block blocks like a wood block could block wood. It's useless, Mahogany was caught off guard once, and it won't happen again. Grit Whetstone would have to try harder than that!

Secret weapon time: Wood block calls upon their own personal army of three hundred and fifty retired cabinet-making instructors from UCLA. The blades have been a thorn in Wood Blocks' sides for generations. That kind of expertise and cutlery would certainly come in handy right about now. The Whetstone grits its grit. And look, just as intended, the geriatric craftsmen's jaws drop to the floor at the sight of a sharpening stone. Wal-Mart hasn't stocked these in the last twenty years, it's all been those weird prong things! MY GOD THE GOOD OLD DAYS HAVE RETURNED. They rush to the Grit Whetstone, holding it down until their personal toolbox is back to the shape that Roy Underhill demands.

Grit Whetstone isn't out of the game yet. 75,000 years learning the art of magic wasn't wasted on nothing. If there was one positive thing that came out of a life age of living in Japan, it was Naruto. Secret weapon time, round 2: Grit Whestone crackes its cracks and, through the most arcane spinning block gestures, replicates itself ten thousand times. Thanks, mass production! Aha! A great stone wall! For ages they have stood protecting societies as impermeable barriers, but never before have they been sentient. With such self-awareness, there would be no stopping the tides of darkness yet to come.

The Great Wall of Whetstone simply falls over. It's mass devastating the small organic rectangle's body. And dreams.

I have every confidence that Argo will be awesome and amazing as a global moderator, and be empowered to help take care of us in times of crisis and do whatever weird ideas come up about how to positively pass the time as we all get through life. Statement on Meihua


     Refugia,

Tradition indicates that Refugia views its respective embassy regions as allies, aligned in values and culture, bound in friendship and a shared sense of purpose. In these relationships, the expectations are relatively casual. Our primary goal is the continuity of our communities and the peaceful coexistence with our neighbours where these values are shared. Although we aspire to these long lasting and harmonious friendships, through the inevitability of communities' rise and fall it is not always so.

The region Meihua is one of our older standing embassies, despite our minimal contact with the region. Indeed, it is indicative of the benefits of doing no harm. However, when this embassy was forged on February 12th 2020, the region was at its all-time high of eighty nations and seeking to improve. Instead, however, the region became locked into a steady decline that it has not found the ability to escape from. The cause seems to correlate to Lukatonia's resignation as Chief Elder on February 1st of that year.

The population has steadily fallen from eighty nations to its present state of fifteen, with the last nation casting an endorsement reaching its end as well. Ashaie's two and a half year delegacy has come to an end, and without another World Assembly native in the region, she cannot be replaced. It now appears to be regrettably time to retire this embassy and hope their community may one day recover and return to promising future that it once knew.

Until such time, under RRS 11(e) as the Acting Councillor of Foreign Affairs, I am initiating a region-wide referendum to determine the fate of this embassy, RRS 6(b)(iv).

     The Battle of All Things


Join me in the newly-minted Warzone board, where a truly objective determination will be made about our champions. Except the objective is destruction.

In the Warzone board, you will be able to observe the bracket of matches we will be working through over the course of the next three weeks. The bracket is gloriously located at the top of the board and provides up-to-date information on characters' current standing. If you believe the bracket is out of date, give the page a refresh in case it is a caching issue. The bracket features the approximate match dates by section, but specific match dates are in the calendar below.

For each match, there will be a thread posted in the Warzone board. In each thread, you can write up an example of a battle in any form you choose. Be as elaborate or as simple as you wish. Be analytical and methodical or fanciful and storylike. Whichever you like best. Then vote in the poll to reflect how your match has turned out.

The results of the poll will determine the outcome and a canonical shitpost will be developed which expresses that result. You are not required to write a battle post to vote, although it is recommended. Votes will only be displayed after the poll closes.

     Prizes


As of this moment, every player who turned in applications to the character battle will receive :planet: 5,000 for each application submitted. However, now the goal is to get your character to survive these pseudo RP popularity contests. Prizes for longevity will be distributed according to these divine revelations:


  • Surviving the Round of 16           :planet: 25,000
  • Surviving the Quarter-Finals        :planet: 50,000
  • Surviving the Semi-Finals            :planet: 100,000
  • Winning the Battle of All Things   :planet: 250,000
Prizes stack and are awarded for each character's progression :heppy:

Any player whose character survives to the Semi-Finals, will receive a forum badge for their championship in the Warzone event: [img2]https://calref.cc/boardbanners/warzone.png[/img2]

There aren't too many rules for character apps, but the last two I don't really feel adequately follow them.

You will need to review the OP and resubmit your apps if you'd like them to be in the tournament, otherwise they will be skipped.
